Brief description of switch yard

Image
Switchyard does not consist of transformer. It is mainly for connections and interconnections, are  essential for transmission, distribution, collection, and controlling the flow of electricity. The  switchyard delivers power generated at the power plant to the electrical grid. Switchyards are  generally classified by voltage level, circuit breaker and bus arrangements. Switchyards are often  located directly adjacent to or near a power station. Bus Bars An electrical bus bar is defined as a conductor or a group of conductor used for collecting electric  power from the incoming feeders and distributes them to the outgoing feeders. In other words, it is a type of electrical junction in which all the incoming and outgoing electrical current meets.  Thus, the electrical bus bar collects the electric power at one location. The bus bar system consists the isolator and the circuit breaker. On the occurrence of a fault, the  circuit breaker is tripped off and...

What do you mean by generator? How does it work and what are the parts of generator?

Image
Generator  Generator is a machine which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. In generator there is a shaft which is placed in a magnetic field. As the shaft moves or rotate there shaft cuts the magnetic field due to which emf is produced. Basically there are two types of generator. i)   Separately excited ii)   Self excited As there is a magnetic field in generator and armature coil is placed in that magnetic field. When the armature is rotated by external force then due to rotation there the armature coil cuts the magnetic field and also we can say there change in magnetic field in the coil takes place. Due to change in magnetic field there the emf induced which is directly proportional to the rate of change in magnetic field. Generator works on the principle of Faraday second law or Faraday law of induction which says that                       ...

How hydroelectricity is generated?

Image
Before knowing about how hydroelectricity is produced we have to know about what do you mean by hydroelectricity. Hydroelectricity is the electrical energy which is produced by converting the mechanical energy of the water to electrical energy. There are total three sections in hydroelectricity power plant. 1)   Dam:     It is also known as the reservoir of water. In dam we collect water for the future propose cause in some season due to lack of water we have to close the production but as dam has the reservoir of the water we can use it in that season when we lack water and produce electricity.     Also there are some hydro power which doesn’t has dam and use running water for producing electricity which is also known as RUN OF THE RIVER hydro power plant.      2. Tunnel :  Tunnel is the part of the power plant which is responsible for making water flow from dam towards the turbine. There are also various types of tunnel used as types...

Different between Alternating current and Direct current.

Image
In dynamic electricity there are two types of current which are ac and dc where ac stands for alternating current and dc stands for direct current. What is ac? Alternating current is the current in which it moves in a cycle where half cycle is positive and next half cycle is negative as in the given figure. Alternating current is commonly used in house appliances and industrial machinery because of its benefits. What is dc? Different from alternating current, direct current moves in a single direction in a straight path. There is no any positive or negative cycle because of single direction current. It is least used in home appliances and industrial propose. About Transformer Difference between ac and dc                           AC                         DC -It stands for alternating   ...

What do you mean by Transformer?

Image
Transformer is the static machine which is used to step down and step up AC voltage. While changing the voltage electrical power remains unchanged so while increasing the voltage current decrease and while decreasing the voltage, current increase. It work in the principle of Faraday law of electromagnetic induction in which induced emf is directly proportional to the rate of change of flux. Parts of transformer        Conservation tank        Main tank        Drain off        Core        Winding        Buccholz relay         Cooling tubes Working principle of the transformer Transformer has mainly two parts one is core and next one is winding where there are two winding which are primary and secondary winding. When the power of the certain voltage is given or connected with primary winding there in primary winding electromagnetic flux forms a...

What do you mean by Electricity?

Image
Electricity is the form of the form of energy which is the resultance of existence of charged particles like as electron or protons. The flow of electric charge is known as electricity. Types of electricity: There are two types of electricity 1)    Static electricity Static electricity is the result of an imbalance between negative and positive charge in an object. When we rub two objects surface there transfer of negative charge or electron takes place which is called static electricity. Examples:  A)   Lightening                      B)  Rubbing comb in hair 2)     Dynamic electricity There are two types of dynamic electricity.   AC: It stands for alternating current. It always moves in cycle and also has frequency and wave length. It is produced from ac generator.  DC : It stands for direct current. It always moves in a straight path without any cycle. It neither have freque...
