What do you mean by generator? How does it work and what are the parts of generator?
Generator
i) Separately excited
ii) Self excited
As there is a magnetic field in generator and armature coil is placed in that magnetic field. When the armature is rotated by external force then due to rotation there the armature coil cuts the magnetic field and also we can say there change in magnetic field in the coil takes place. Due to change in magnetic field there the emf induced which is directly proportional to the rate of change in magnetic field.
Generator works on the principle of Faraday second law or Faraday law of induction which says that
Induced emf = change in magnetic flux
change in time
Pars of generator:
1) Electromagnet or strong magnet:
This is the part of the generator which is used to provide the magnetic field to the coil of the armature.
2) Armature coil:
This part of the generator is rotating part in which coil is fitted and as this section rotate by giving external energy there this coil cuts the magnetic field and then the induction of emf takes place.
3) Slip rings:
This is a part of the generator which is used to make contact between rotating armature and stationary brush.
4) Brush:
It is the part of generator which is used to makes contact between the slip rings and wires. Carbon is used as brush because this is semiconductor which can effectively conduct electricity in high temperature also.
